Lorna Baxter, Reiki Second Degree Practitioner. I attended an 8 hours class today and attained the Second Degree in the Reiki method of Natural Healing with Reverend Linda Raphael, D.D. Reiki Master.
What is Reiki? Reiki is Universal Life Energy. Reiki is an ancient Tibetan and Japanese method of healing and self-empowerment. It is used for stress reduction and relaxation and to help the body heal itself naturally. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and all living things. It is what causes us to be alive. If one’s life force energy is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress. If one’s energy is high we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including the body, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feeling of peace, security and well-being. Many have reported miraculous results.
Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques, such as massage therapy, to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
The Reiki practitioner is the conduit between you and the source of the universal life force energy. The energy flows through the practitioner’s energy field and through his or her hands to you. The energy does not come from the practitioner; it comes through the practitioner from the universal source. There is no energy drain on the person giving the treatment. You may experience the energy as sensations such as heat, tingling, or pulsing where the practitioner places her hands on your body, or you may feel these sensations move through your body to other locations. This is the energy flowing into you. Some people may not perceive any change at all. Most people feel very relaxed and peaceful. Many clients even fall asleep while receiving Reiki treatment.
The benefits of Reiki treatment
A Reiki treatment may:
- bring a peaceful, deep relaxation
- dissolve energy blockages and tension
- detoxify the body
- support the well-being of the client who is receiving traditional medical treatments that are debilitating, such as chemotherapy and radiation, surgery, kidney transplants, etc.
- supply universal life-force energy to the body
- stimulate the body’s immune system
- help to relieve pain
- stimulate tissue and bone healing after injury or surgery
- increase the vibrational frequency of the client on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels
During a Reiki treatment, you usually lie on a massage table, fully clothed. Typical treatments are 50-minutes in length. The Reiki practitioner gently places her hands on your body in specific energy locations during the treatment. The length of time that she leaves her hands in each position is determined by the flow of energy through her hands to you at each location. There is no pressure, massage or manipulation.
Reiki is a complement to traditional medical or therapeutic treatments
Reiki complements all other types of medical and therapeutic treatments. However, it is not a substitute for consultation with a physician, a practitioner, natural therapeutics or a psychotherapist. Reiki can increase the efficacy of all these other types of healing.
If you already are in good health, regularly applied Reiki treatments (about once a month) enhance your ability to respond to unhealthy elements in your environment and help you to handle stress. Reiki is great as a preventative medicine, promoting the harmonious distribution of energy.
Reiki can help lessen symptoms and side effects of traditional treatments
Reiki is not specific to any particular types of diseases or conditions. Because it works on the entire self – mind, body and emotions – and because it is universal life force energy, it may be successful in all types of physical, emotional, mental and spiritual healing, depending on your needs.
Examples of patients seen by Reiki practitioners at Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Integrative Medicine include those with the following conditions:
- All types of cancer
- Fertility issues
- Parkinson’s Disease
- Psychological illnesses
- Pre- and post-op patients in the hospital main campus
- Chronic pain
- Digestive problems
- Stress-related diseases
